i live in hawaii, and its pretty cool i guess
but hawaii is far away from everything else, gets kinda boring, but it would be fun to go to college here

look for foreign exchange programs. you would get to go for free, and be sponsored by a family that will let you stay with them for free while you study.

If you are able to live on campus (and a room at the East-West Center would bring you into more frequent contact with Indonesians, Chinese, and other international students) going to UH Manoa may actually work out to be cheaper than going to the community college on the Windward Side and renting a place to live over there.

For you, I would recommend UH Hilo on the “Big Island” of Hawaii. It’s actually in a smaller town than the Kaneohe Kailua area, with much less traffic. There’s more of a sense of community on campus, and it’s a four year institution with more courses available. I imagine you would find it more challenging. Community colleges have a reputation for being “high school with ashtrays”. Except you can’t smoke in UH buildings anymore!

You can check out rents on craigslist and out-of-state-tuition on the UH websites. For the Big Island, Captain Cook and Kona side will be too far for the UH Hilo commute.

You might also check out the Asian Development Bank to see what kind of scholarships they can offer you.
