Giving birth to your husband some decades ago does not give her the right to abuse the mother of HIS children. Do you really think it's a good idea for your children to be exposed and perhaps influenced by this demented bag of wind? If she's incapable of simple common courtesy, make her infrequent visits even more of a rarity by being unavailable at all!! Until you get an abject apology from this person, she should forfeit any contact with the grandkids. You have to make things happen if you want them to - if you are having a party for the kids, invite her, want them to see her, bring them over there, etc. Since it sounds like most of your family isn't around here, I would think that it would be imporatant to have a relationship with whatever family is around.
