Great video Neil! Enjoyed watching that. I’ve never dived on the Reef, but it’s on the cards!

There are many different scuba diving training centers all over the world. Do some reasearch on the web, e.g. google to find a company near you.

The certification I trained for was the PADI Open Water. This means you can dive in the sea or lakes etc with a buddy.

If you just want to try diving then most places do a ‘try dive’ or similar where you are guided by an instructor with minimal training required.

We did the basic PADI training in a swimming pool in Cairns, then the open water park on the GBR from a liveaboard. It was back in 2000 but the cost was around 300 pounds. Cairns (like many places on the east coast) is an excellent place to visit – lots of British backpackers, lots of night life if you want it, lots of fantastic adventures. Go for it, you’ll love it.

Excellent video mate. I am 16 years old and am in the UK. I have only ever done the basic PADI Open Water diver course in Cyprus last year. How much experience had you done when you went to the GBR? Also are you in the UK too? If so how much did it cost you? I would love to go to AUS sometime soon, just wandering if it would be possible for me to go where this was taken……hows the nightlife in AUS too? Cheers

What a nice vid to take home when done with class!? It looks SO nice, I´m Swedish and have “only” dived in Egypt for a couple of years but have allways dreamed of GBR and its beauty! Thank you for this!

Dave

We had a professional underwater videographer shoot this, you can probably tell by the quality, and the fact that I’m in front of the camera and not behind it :)

As a rookie did you get allowed to take this footage?
When I took my license the same place, I didn’t think they allowed it:(

Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes Australia is a long way, but it’s certainly closer to the US than the UK. Of course if you live in the US then you’re not too far from the Caribbean. There’s some great Scuba there, e.g. Cozumel off the coast of Mexico.
